2014 Is The Year Of Social Metrics

If you’ve been paying attention to the rise of social media in the past few years, then you know that Facebook has risen to be the No. 1 site online, and you may know that social media traffic has been on a steady rise, as well. In fact, some websites are now reporting that they are receiving more traffic from social media than from search engines. I believe this is a trend you are going to see more and more of in the next few years – starting in 2014.

Facebook is a big traffic referral source for a lot of websites – especially business-to-consumer sites. LinkedIn delivers a lot of traffic to B2B sites. Twitter has always been a heavy traffic source for all kinds of websites, and Pinterest is no slouch either.

Other social media sites that do well in sending traffic to websites include:

  • YouTube
  • Instagram
  • Tumblr
  • StumbleUpon
  • Google+

Of course, not all traffic is equal. Traffic that converts is better than traffic that doesn’t. Still, if you can drive targeted traffic to your website from social media, then you are doing well. You’re in good company.

I believe 2014 is going to be a banner year for social media traffic and social media metrics. If you haven’t figured out yet how to measure important social media stats, now is the time to learn.
