Google+ Improves Social Sharing

I knew it would come to this eventually. Google+ is borrowing a page from Facebook. Or maybe they were planning this all along. Either way, social sharing through Google+ just got a lot better.

The search engine has introduced a sign-in button for third-party websites. That will allow your site visitors to sign in to your website without having to sign up for an account. They can sign in using Google+ instead.

Anyone with a Google+ account, which is just about everyone these days, can sign in to any site that has installed the button.

So how does that making social sharing easier?

For starters, when users sign in to a third-party website, they’ll be asked who can see information shared by the user. Users can choose all circles, some circles, or just themselves. Also, they can choose which members of their circles are visible to the website.

Google+ has made the sign-up feature very simple, and they seem to have addressed privacy issues fairly reasonably. Cynthia Boris at Marketing Pilgrim explains it all pretty well.

Could this be the future of the Internet? Is everyone going to be signed in to Google+ or Facebook? Or both?

I can see how this might be the way things are in the future. We’ll all be ubiquitously sign on. And sharing will be more streamlined, but you’ll have to read the fine print.

What do you think? Does this make social media better?
